The Inchokkaalaali (I’m Visiting) Assistance Request program covers the cost of admission fees, sack lunches and activity kits for eligible Oklahoma school groups visiting the Chickasaw Cultural Center (CCC) in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Groups are also eligible for a mileage reimbursement for buses paid to their respective school. The assistance is received through an application and award letter process.
The CCC provides opportunities to connect with First American history through performances, reenactments, demonstrations, collections, and exhibits at one of the largest and most extensive tribal cultural centers in the United States. While visiting the campus, students will receive a guided tour of the Chikasha Poya Exhibit, the Holisso Exhibit, and the traditional village.
Students can participate in a cultural art or horticultural demonstration, and will receive an activity kit reflective of that activity to take home.
We received grants from Oklahoma Humanities and from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation to fund this program; one grant is from August 2022-March 2024 and the other is October 2022-December 2023.
We request that attending students and teachers provide feedback about their trip and experience after the visit.
Funding for this program is provided in part by a grant from Oklahoma Humanities (OH) and the National Endowment of Humanities (NEH). Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of OH or NEH.
