Lancelot Minor, III Memorial Law Scholarship

This scholarship is for a Chickasaw undergraduate or law student enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in law, pre-law, legal studies, paralegal or any major associated with law or a bachelor’s degree obtained with the intention of pursuing a law degree. Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Mr. Minor, who passed away in 2019, was born and raised in Memphis, TN. He graduated from Memphis University in 1967 and the University of Mississippi in 1971. Lance began his law career in Memphis in 1977 after graduating from Memphis State University Law School. He then became partner with the Bourland, Heflin, Alvarez, Minor and Matthews firm where he continued to practice law until early 2019. He practiced law in Memphis for many years focusing on business transactions, banking law, litigation and dispute resolution. A gifted peacemaker and widely respected in his legal profession, Minor was a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, a Super Lawyer and had won a Best Lawyers in America award.

Lance was also an active member and elder at the First Evangelical Church in Memphis. His love for his Lord and Savior was evident to all who encountered him. His desire to reflect the kindness of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and devotion to the word of God showed itself in personal and professional integrity as well as in the genuineness with which he responded to the needs of others.

The Lancelot Minor, III Memorial Law Scholarship will be available to Chickasaw law students beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year.
