James Aaron Ingram Athletic Scholarship

This scholarship is for a Chickasaw undergraduate student enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university, pursuing any major, but must be a member of the baseball, track, golf, softball or basketball program, with a preference for a baseball, softball or track student.

Mr. Ingram, a Chickasaw citizen, was a decorated three-sport athlete throughout his collegiate years, participating in baseball, track and field and basketball. He is a member of the American Indian Hall of Fame and the Bacone Athletic Hall of Fame. Ingram received numerous awards in baseball and track and field, including First Team All-American Baseball Squad of National Junior College Athletics Association during his stint at Bacone College from 1958-1960. He also established school records while at Oklahoma Christian College from 1961-1963, including the half-mile, one-mile, two-mile, mile relay, sprint medley and distance medley.

“I am deeply honored. This scholarship was created to help Chickasaw student-athletes achieve their educational goals,” Mr. Ingram said. “This offering helps meet one of my personal goals of helping young Chickasaw students excel academically and on the playing field.”

Ingram went on: “My hope is that this scholarship helps reduce some of the financial burden that some students experience during the school year. I hope to meet the first recipient of this scholarship and extend my congratulations.”
