Mattie Greenwood Tunnel ITECK Scholarship

This scholarship is for a part- or full-time Chickasaw student (vo-tech, undergraduate or graduate) pursuing a degree in conservation biology, ecology, environmental science or policy, hydrology or Native American studies with an emphasis on applying Indigenous Traditional Ecological & Cultural Knowledge (ITECK) to these practices. Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Mattie Greenwood, an original Chickasaw enrollee, was born in Wide Springs, Indian Territory in 1872. The daughter of Harris and Sarah (Allowatubbee) Greenwood, she knew what it meant to live close to and care for the land. She was also a loving and fiercely protective mother and grandmother and is great-grandmother to a former Chickasaw scholarship recipient. She would be heartened by the survivance and cultural resurgence of the Chickasaw people and proud to support future generations wishing to learn from and carry forward our rich traditional ecological and cultural knowledge, and to care for the earth.
