Scholarship Recipient Story: August Moran

August Moran is the 2024-2025 recipient of the Mooniene Ogee Memorial Scholarship

“I am so honored to be selected as the recipient for the Mooniene Ogee Memorial Scholarship,” August Moran said, “It took me by surprise! This scholarship allows me to receive my master’s degree in special education—I feel very blessed and grateful. Receiving this scholarship from the Chickasaw Foundation means everything to me.”

Moran, who is already a special education teacher, said that being the recipient of this scholarship assisted her in three ways. “This scholarship helped pay for my school; helped me not take out any loans; and more than anything, it has given me the chance to pursue my dreams.”

Other than completing her master’s in special education, Moran hopes to further her career as a special education teacher and wants to have a greater impact in her field. “I want to be a leader in the schools and help other new special education teachers succeed,” August mentioned. “I want to mentor them and help them be successful in the classroom.”

But more than anything else, August looks forward to helping her students grow. “Most of all, I want to give back to my students. This population of students is amazing, and being able to work with them and help them in their daily lives bring me such joy!”

Outside of the classroom, August enjoys many activities. “I love walking, taking hikes, and exploring nature,” she said. “I love going thrifting and spending as much time as I can with my husband and three adult children—I want to make them proud.”
