Alicia Anne Wear Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for a full-time graduate Chickasaw student enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a major in therapy, counseling or a related field with an emphasis on working with families and children. Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Alicia, who passed away from cancer, was a licensed professional counselor for the Chickasaw Nation. She attributed her career path to two important things: her upbringing and her faith. She was raised in a loving home by her parents and desired this same experience for every child. Alicia was also a women of sincere faith. She had a Bible verse that was significant in her heart: “I will lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).

Due to Alicia’s upbringing and faith, she was able to display an overflow of love for her clients. Helping others was her way of giving back.

“Alicia always sought opportunities to meet and share with others,” William, her husband, explained. “She didn’t discriminate but offered dignity and respect to everyone. She served others even when she didn’t have the strength. She carried a smile that was infectious.”

The members of the Wear family and the division of family services are proud and honored to establish this scholarship in Alicia’s memory. It began to be available for students majoring in a counseling field in the fall 2022 semester.
